The Student Formula Japan Competition is a competition among university, junior college and vocational school students on small formula-style racing cars which they have designed and built in the span of one year. The five-day-long competition focuses not only on vehicle performance but also on craftsmanship, through such activities as the “Static Event” (cost and presentation), “Scrutineering,” and the “Dynamic Event” (acceleration, skidpad, autocross, durability). The number of competing teams increases yearly, with 98 teams in total entering this year’s competition.
2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics-Related Promotional Initiatives
Olympics and Paralympics-Related “Countdown Showcase” Booth of the All Japan Business Committee
Experience the latest in Japanese technology following an “AIRPORT→TRAFFIC→CITY→SPORTS→TOURISM” narrative presented at this promotional booth that will be located in West Hall 3, set up as a kind of preview for the “Countdown Showcase” initiative that will take place on December 25 -26, 2017 at SMBC/Rising Square. The slogans “ALL JAPAN” and “Toward & Beyond 2020” are the focal messages of this initiative, inviting visitors to explore trends and developments in culture, society, science and innovation.
Recovery Support Booth for the Tohoku and Kyushu Regions
Recovery in areas in Japan impacted by natural disasters will be a key theme in 2020 Olympics and Paralympics-related promotional activities. Businesses from Tohoku and Kyushu, where such impacts have been the most severe, will be exhibiting their goods in this booth located in West Hall 3, in collaboration with the All Japan Business Committee, and official licensed merchandise for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games will also be on display.

FUTURE MOBILITY SUMMIT: TOKYO 2017
Day 1 of “Future Mobility Summit: Tokyo 2017” will focus on Asia and ASEAN countries and their visions for the future of mobility, and new business ideas will be discussed. The Asia and ASEAN market has growing potential for mobility-based businesses, although each country has unique issues surrounding mobility. Key leaders from the Asia and ASEAN markets will gather to discuss the future and possible solutions to these issues to create a brighter future. The executive director of Singularity University’s “Innovation Partnership Program (IPP),” Mr. Kian Gohar, will also participate in the event, along with other international facilitators, creating a session that promotes open discussion and visionary innovation.
Day 2 of Future Mobility Summit: Tokyo 2017 will focus on 2020 and beyond in the Japanese market, and new innovations in mobility business models. The format will be similar to a business conference, with presentations by speakers from leading companies around the world, promoting networking with other participants.

Day 1 of the “FUTURE MOBILITY SUMMIT: TOKYO 2017” will begin by establishing a vision of the future of mobility across Asia. The Future Mobility Summit will convene government representatives, automotive decision-makers and mobility entrepreneurs from across Asia to design the future of how we move people and goods, and the way we bring spaces and communities together in urban environments. The first day will be hosted by Mr. Kian Gohar, Executive Director of the Innovation Partnership Program at Singularity University in the United States, who will, along with several international facilitators, lead the dialogue and specific vision for each session.
Day 2 of FUTURE MOBILITY SUMMIT: TOKYO 2017 will focus on the advances in autonomous driving and electrification that will become possible in 2020 and beyond. The conference will also discuss roadmaps and solutions that are being considered by manufacturers around the world. Small EVs and new services will also be key topics discussed at the conference, previewing the future of the industry by looking at innovations by start-ups.
Car Design Forum Tokyo 2017
“Car Design Forum Tokyo 2017” is a platform that invites key representatives from domestic and foreign automakers and members of the media to discuss car design, building on the success of its inaugural event in 2015, in which design chiefs from Daimler, BMW, Renault and FCA participated. Bringing together many of the world’s most influential designers for a day of intense discussion and debate, the intimate nature of this event allows for better networking and shared creativity. This year, designers from Land Rover, Aston Martin and Alpine and from Asian manufacturers including Hyundai, TATA Motors and GAC Group will participate, expanding the discussion to include fast-growing markets in Asia.

Car Modelling Workshops
Modelling Workshop for Children
This workshop offers children the opportunity to create a one-of-a-kind model car with industrial clay, a material that is used in actual car design! Professional car modellers will be on hand to help out. Children between the ages of 8 and 15 are eligible to participate, with an accompanying adult.

Advanced Car Modelling Workshop for Young Adults
Construct a 1:5-scale clay model car using industrial clay, a material used in actual car modelling. Interested high school, vocational school, and university students will be given a chance to create these models with the help of a professional car modeller.
